India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919 (6070 Rfmn. Bahadur Rana, 1/3/Gks.), edge cuts, very fine

In mid May 1919, the combined depots of the 2nd and 3rd Battalions, 3rd Queen Alexandra's Own Gurkha Rifles, comprising 4 Gurkha officers and 196 other ranks, reinforced the 2nd Battalion, 1st King George's Own Gurkha Rifles (The Malaun Regiment) at Loe Dakka. However, there is no record in the Regimental History of the 1st Battalion, which was serving in Iraq at the time, providing reinforcement drafts to any unit. Nevertheless, it is assumed that due to demobilisation that was going on at the time of the outbreak of the Third Afghan War, all available manpower held by the Depot of the 1st Battalion would have been used to reinforce deployed Gurkha units.
