Frederick Beatson served with the 13th Foot under the command of Major, later Major-General, Robert Sale. They fought with distinction throughout the war taking part in the seizure of Rangoon and the later campaign to the north, often being called upon to take well-defended enemy stockades. They were notably engaged at Kemmendyne and Kumaroot being present from the very start to the very end of the campaign.
