Sri Lanka (Ceylon) (1st century BC - 2nd century AD), AE Lakshmi Plaque, 6.22g, Lakshmi standing between two elephants on stands, rev. swastika on a stand between ancillary symbols, a second Lakshmi Plaque of similar size, and another smaller and wider, but both broken in two parts (Cod. 21; MAC.5048-50), the first with unobtrusive part missing at bottom, and small crack above, good fine, the other two fine, but broken (3)
Part of a collection of coins formed by Mr Campbell, a tea planter of Nuwara Eliya in the early 20th century. He regularly corresponded with Mr H. W. Codrington (famous for having later written 'Ceylon Coins and Currency,' published by Richards, Government Printer, Ceylon, 1924), which is still a standard reference work on the subject today.
