These unusual numismatic items are very rarely offered. They occur when the coin die is accidentally struck against the feeder holding the blank planchet, rather than the planchet itself.
Similar items featuring American coins have appeared recently in auctions, such as Heritage, and have attracted prices in excess of $15,000, due to their great rarity.
