Charles II (1660-1685), Shilling, 1683, second laureate and draped bust right, rev. four crowned shields cruciform, six strings to harp, obliquely milled edge, 5.47g, 6h (Woodhouse 347; Bull 557 [R6]; ESC 1064; Spink 3375), flaw through French shield and the bust almost flat, the reverse better, otherwise toned, scarcely good, but extremely rare, the other example known to Hamilton 'spoiled by gilding'
