John Barrass Birkbeck (1831-1917)
Born in Shiney Row, County Durham in 1831; died in County Durham 1917. Composed anthems including 'It is a good thing to give thanks' (1898) and 'Arise, shine O Zion' (1911), hymn, tunes and songs.
