Roman Republic Marc Antony, AR Denarius, 32-31BC, Praetorian galley, ANT AVG at the top, III VIR R P C at the bottom rev Aquila between two legionary standards, LEG XII in between, 3.10g, ( Crawford 544/26 ; Sydenham 1230 ) The 12th Legion Fulminata (*armed with lightning) was recruited by Julius Caesar for his war against the Helvetians. Coin is worn, as due to low silver content they were unpopular in commerce, so remained in circulation for around 250 years, until the silver content in denarii had dropped enough that they matched the legionary issues and became usable again, Cleaned, with bankers mark on obv. G/F
