Sicily Syracuse, AR Tetradrachm, 405-380BC, Speeding quadriga being driven left by charioteer holding reins and a kentron, Nike flying above right to crown him with laurel wreath, Star above horse, rev Bust of the nymph Arethusa left, hair caught up in decorative amphyx and sphendone, wearing double hoop earring and single-pendant necklace; around, four dolphins, 16.62g, (SNG Ashmolean 1941 (these dies) ; Dewing 853 (these dies) ; SNG ANS 1379 (these dies) ; Tudeer 87) mottled toning, well struck, in high relief, test cut at 4:00 on edge, porosity to coin has damaged finer details on obv, such as nike's wreath or the charioteers kentron, but this is saved by the state of preservation of the rev. bust, this type widely recognised as one of the pinnacles of hellenistic numismatic art, possibly an unsigned die of Eukleidas. gVF
