Sicily Syracuse, AR Tetradrachm, 2nd Democracy, 466-405BC, Unsigned dies in the style of Eukleidas, Charioteer driving fast quadriga left, reins and kentron in hand, wheels tilted to give the appearance of turning a bend, dolphin in exergue, dorsal fin breaking exergual line, rev head of the nymph Arethusa left, diademed, wearing double hoop earring, hair flowing as if underwater, 4 dolphins swimming around, 17.34g, (Tudeer 97 ; SNG ANS 298 ; HGC 2, 1345) a spectacular coin, apart from slight wear to high points and a die break to reverse, a stunning example. the reverse gives a strong impression of speed, with horses chomping at the bit, hairline die flaws only add to the depth of the scene.
