Lucania Sybaris, AR Stater, C.530BC, bull standing left, head turned right, [V]M in exergue, rev Same, but incuse and reversed, 9.18g, (SNG ANS 836 ; HN Italy 1729 ; BMC 1. 1) In the early stages of Greek coinage an incuse mirror image of the obverse was relatively common, however this required careful die alignment and preparation, so it was abandoned a few decades later. The attention to detail in the engraving should not be overlooked, with nearly every bead in the exergual line and border crisp and sharp. Aside from a slight double strike and the smallest touch of flatness to the neck of the bull, this coin is an excellent example of this type. well toned, small flan crack at 12:00, flatness below exergual line, otherwise, gEF
