Auction: 22107 - Spink Numismatic e-Circular 17: Part I - A Gentleman's Collection of Crowns, Halfcrowns and Florins - e-Auction
Lot: 990

William and Mary (1688-94), Shilling, 1692, laureate and draped busts right, A of GRATIA over T [?], rev. four crowned shields cruciform, no stop after BR, seven strings to harp, milled edge, 5.90g, 6h (Bull 865-R; ESC 1075, lack of stop not noted; S.3437), usual soft strike on the busts, cleaned, good fine

The mistake in GRATIA is not noted in ESC, nor in Bull, and yet it frequently turns up. Bull does mention a flawed F in FR, and he gives RE over ET in REX, which is not clear here, but perhaps the bizzare shape of the X is related to the die sinker's problems.
