Charles II (1660-85), Shilling, 1671, second laureate and draped bust right, rev. four crowned shields cruciform, no stop after HIB, eight strings to harp, milled edge, 5.94g, 6h (Bull 518-R3; ESC 1034; S.3375), on a broad flan, a few flecks and weak strike on the bust therefore good very fine, the reverse extremely fine, light even tone on attractive lustrous surfaces, very rare, particularly in this high quality

The only comparable example of this rare coin to be offered at auction in the last 20 years was the Harry Manville coin (Spink auction 9, 4 June 1980, lot 56), re-offered in Spink auction 196, 24-25 September 2008, lot 929. The two coins are almost identical in terms of quality, and they are from the same dies.
