Auction: 22107 - Spink Numismatic e-Circular 17: Part I - A Gentleman's Collection of Crowns, Halfcrowns and Florins - e-Auction
Lot: 646

William III (1694-1702), Crown, 1696 OCTAVO, first laureate and draped bust right, G over D in GRA (?), rev. crowned shields cruciform, six strings to harp, lettered edge, 29.53g, 6h (cf. Bull 996; ESC 89B [R3]; Spink 3470), a distinct metal flaw behind head and lightly cleaned but residually toned, the legend variety unclear and perhaps merely 'die flows', otherwise about very fine, and presumably rare

The old ESC lists two varieties of the G over D in GRA, with stops on the obverse (89B), this coin, and without stops on the obverse (89C), the next lot. Bull lists only the variety without stops on the obverse, Bull 996, but then gives the old ESC reference 89A, which does not have the G over D at all!
Both Bull and ESC give all these coins R3.
