Halliday, PALMAM QVI MERVIT FERAT CAROLUS LINNAEUS NATUS 1707, draped bust left of Carl Linnaeus within wreath of flowers and fruit,, rev. 11 line inscription within wreath, 45mm, 39.47g, a handful of very light surface marks, otherwise attractively toned and with proof-like surfaces, extremely fine

John H. Vivian M.P (1785-1855), Welsh industrialist and Politician. Between 1832 and 1855 he sat as Member of Parliament for Swansea District. He was a fellow of the Royal Society, a major in the Royal Stannary Artillery, a justice of the peace and a deputy lieutenant. The mineral vivianite (Fe3(PO4)2•8(H2O)) is named in his honour. A statue in his honour stands in Ferrara Square, Swansea.
