The Bernard Pearl Collection of Historical Medals | Defeat of Sultan Tippoo in 1792, struck c.1803, AE medal, by C.H. Kuchle, CAR. MARCHIO CORNWALLIS STRATEGUS ACERRIMUS, draped bust left, rev. PAS SIT PARCERE HOSTI., Cornwallis, standing before his aides, recieves Sultan Tippoo who presents his two sons, SULTANO TIPPOO DEVICTO OBSIDES RECIPIT MDCCXCII. in exergue in three lines, 48mm, 56.13g (Eimer 845; BHM 363), some surface marks, most noticebly to left of obverse bust, otherwise lustrous and with hints of toning, bolder very fine

Struck from two pairs of dies. Kuchler's medals were made at Mathew Boulton's Soho Manufactory; some were resruck in the nineteenth century afer Boulton's death.

Tippoo Sahib (1751-99), Sultan of Mysore, killed in action at the storming of Seringapatam in the fourth Mysore war.
