This medal was struck upon Lilburne's acquittal when he was accused of high treason for libelling Cromwell. He was punished under the monarchy, the republic, and the protectorate. At his last trial in 1657 he pleaded his own cause, and asserted that doctrine which appears upon the medal. The medal would have been a private commission, probably sponsored by Lilburne himself.
