Anne (1702-1714), Pre-Union, Halfcrowns (4), 1703 TERTIO, first draped bust, VIGO below, rev. crowned shields cruciform, angles plain, six strings to harp, lettered edge upwards, 14.59g, 5h (Bull 1358; ESC 569; Spink 3580), rubbed quite flat, about fair; also, 1706 QVINTO, similar, plain below truncation, GR above curl, rev. seven strings, lettered edge upwards, 14.47g, 6h (Bull 1361; ESC 572), flaw through DEI and polished flat, otherwise about good / fine; lastly, 1707 SEXTO (2), tight ANNA, spread GRATIA, only G above tie, 23 XX 1753 graffiti'd below, rev. eight strings to harp, narrow colon after REG:, 14.67g, 6h; another, seven strings, lettered edge upwards, 14.41g, 6h (Bull 1365; ESC 573; Spink 3582), the first graffiti'd, rubbed and toned, fair / fine, the second rubbed flat on portrait, about good (4)

Often graffiti on 18th Century silver alludes to Christenings, Transportation or death. More infrequently do they relate to marital union. In September and October 1753, the Act of Statute for the Prevention of Clandestine Marriages was passing the the House of Commons, rather aptly the graffiti presented on the third coin here is hidden inconspicuously beneath the bust
