Charles II (1660-1685), Halfcrown, 1671 over 0 VICESIMO TERTIO, variety of third laureate and draped bust right, rev. crowned shields cruciform, eight strings to harp, lettered edge downwards, 14.64g, 6h (Pywell-Phillips 38; Bull 458; ESC 469; Spink 3366), lightly cleaned and pitted, flecked and with adjustment through Garter star and French shield, otherwise residually lustrous, a bold fine, the overdate very clear, only rated R in Bull and ESC but with fewer than an half-dozen auction appearances since Colin Adams, the type is probably very rare
