Lot: 2264

Charles II (1660-1685), Crown, 1669 over 4 [?] VICESIMO PRIMO, second laureate and draped bust right, 'crooked' ties, rev. crowned shields cruciform, nine strings to harp, lettered edge upwards, 29.58g, 6h (Pywell-Phillips 13; Bull 378 [R3]; ESC 38; Spink 3357), small scratch before nose, lightly toned, a bolder fine, a very rare date

Provenance
K Bayford, Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham Coin Fair, 5 September 1999

Bull notes 'blundered edge' but here the edge lettering is very well done. There is a star after TVTAMEN. The 9 of the date seems to be over something, but not 8 as given in both ESC and Bull. It appears to be over a 4
