Frederick J. Paffitt enlisted with the Royal Engineers on 24 January 1917. Posted to 307 Road Construction Company that same day as a Pioneer he was promoted Sergeant on 9 February 1917. Embarking the next day for France Paffit was further advanced Company Sergeant Major on 11 February. Posted to 239th Light Railway (Foreword) Operating Company on 24 February 1919 he was demobilised on 4 November 1919.
