'For valuable services as W/T Officer on the Staff of Commodore (S) [Submarines), Admiralty.'
John Alfred Hunn was confirmed as a Lieutenant on 26 September 1915 and posted to Maidstone for service with submarines, also being listed with Titania. By War's end, he was awarded the O.B.E. for his fine work in collaboration with the submarines of the Royal Navy, which included '...going out in submarines to supervise their wireless and hydrophone equipment'. He was invested with the O.B.E. on 27 January 1920.
