                        (x) 'From letters sent by the Chaplain and the nurse at Lahore Hospital, Calais it appears that Private Forrest was wounded in the back of the head with a bullet on March 6th. He was operated upon and seemed to be going on satisfactorily.
"He is a nice, bright boy, and is very patient and good. I expect in a short time he will be sent over to England. He sends you his love." That night however he took a turn for the worst, sank rapidly, and died at 10 O'clock the next morning'.

Robert Forrest was born at Blackburn in 1896, the son of William and Mary Forrest of 14 Bond Street, Blackburn. Enlisting at Blackburn with the Royal Lancaster Regiment, Forrest was posted to the 7th Battalion he entered the war in France on 17 July 1915. Seeing action during the Battle of Loos the 7th Battalion were in the line in March 1916 when Forrest was hit in the back of the head by a round. Taken to Lahore British Hospital, Calais he survived an operation but died later in the night, Forrest is buried at Calais Southern Cemetery; sold together with a handwritten transcript of a newspaper article as well as with copied research including Commonwealth War Graves details and a photograph of the recipient's grave.
