John Morley was born at Brighton on 14 August 1839 and joined the Royal Navy on 17 October 1853 as Boy 2nd Class. He served aboard the Prince Regent from 7 March-15 December 1854 and thence the Exmouth from 16 December 1854-6 March 1856, before being upon the books of Calcutta from 7 March 1856-13 August 1859. Promoted Gunner, Morley was discharged on 5 February 1867; sold together with original Certificate of Service.
