                        Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque (John Richard Wilmot Ashton), good very fine, in its card envelope of issue
John Richard Wilmot Ashton was born at Cheltenham in 1895, the son of William and Elizabeth of Cedar Cottage, South Shore, Blackpool. Serving aboard the Hospital Ship Brittanic from 24 September 1916 with the Royal Army Medical Corps, he latterly served in France with the 4th Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant. He died of wounds on 6 November 1917, aged just 22 and is buried in the Zuydcoote Military Cemetery.
