(x) China 1856-60, 2 clasps, Taku Forts 1860, Pekin 1860 (Gunr Edwd Arthur, No 6B. 12th Bde R. Art.), pawnbrokers mark to rim, suspension loose, contact marks, contact wear, nearly very fine

Edward Arthur was born at Barnett, Glasgow, Lanark in 1837, and worked as a weaver prior to enlisting at Aberdeen on 9 April 1855 as a Driver with the service number 2462. Promoted Gunner on 1 October 1857 he served with the 9th Battery until 1 May 1859 when he transferred to the 12th Brigade reinforcing the unit after the first round of fighting in China. Later, Arthur's battery was one of those which supported Hope Grant's storming of the Taku Forts and further advance on Pekin.

Returning from the war he saw mainly garrison work to begin with, later transferring to 22nd Battery on 1 October 1873 and serving with them until 12 July 1876 when he was discharged at Plymouth; sold together with copied discharge papers.
