(x) The Irish General Service Medal awarded to Michael Morris, 'D' Company, 4th Battalion, South Wexford, Irish Republican Army, who was accidentally killed on 28 December 1922

Ireland, General Service Medal 1917-21 (131 Michael Morris), missing suspension bar, disc sewn directly onto the riband, otherwise good very fine

Michael Morris is noted as having served with the South Wexford, I.R.A. from 1919, at least according to the signed statement Lieutenant Myles Harpur, although another statement would suggest he joined in mid-1921. Later serving from June 1922 with 'D' Company, 4th Battalion, South Wexford, his record alludes to the circumstances of his death, stating:

'Deceased was killed near Kyle, Co. Wexford on 28th December, 1922 by accidental discharge of his rifle. He was a member of the Column, and was crossing country to avoid the roads. In getting over a gate his rifle discharged, and deceased was killed.'

Morris' accidental discharge caught him in the throat and he died soon after. After his death both Morris' sister and father applied for an Army Pension; sold together with copied service records.
