Barrington-Kennett (A/A Wilcox D.O.) on No.3 Wing Riband, hallmarks for Birmingham 1935, 'Junior Swimming 1935' bar removed, slight edge bruise, minor contact wear, overall very fine

David Oliver Wilcox was born at Barry on 27 February 1918, the son of William and Eunice Wilcox of Aberthaw House, 28 Porthkerry Road, Barry. Educated at first at Barry County School Wilcox joined R.A.F. Halton in with the 31st entry in January 1935 as part of number 2 Wing, number 567872. He was awarded the Barrington-Kennett medal as a member of Number 2 Wing Junior Swimming Team. Passing out as an Aircraftsman Class II as a Fitter on 2 December 1938 and training for work with 1678 Conversion Flight.

Posted to 115 Squadron on 28 June 1943 as a member of Sgt. B. Stokes-Roberts crew as a Flight Engineer. He was unfortunately killed during his first raid over Cologne on the night of 3-4 July, when the Luftwaffe deployed their new Wilde Sau fighters, with a dozen bombers shot down between them and the flak defences. Only one member of the crew Sgt. T. F. Shevels, survived in a prisoner of war camp. Another was buried in Rheinberg War Cemetery; however Wilcox has no known grave and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial; sold together with copied research including census information, R.A.F. Halton record card and 115 Squadron operations book.
