Frederick Albert Spierling was born at Manchester, Lancashire on 25 March 1891, the son of Ehrich and Catherine Spierling of Hulme Lancashire, his father was a Prussian emigree who married a Welsh woman. The family moved from Hulme to 129 Merthyr Street, Barry, Glamorgan and Spierling enlisted with the Glamorgan Royal Garrison Artillery, Territorial Force on 2 March 1909 while working as a Wood Turner. He was married just prior to the outbreak of war in 1914 at Cardiff to Cecilia Nichols. Entering the war with the 49th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery which landed in France in March 1916. Spierling served through the war until 14 December 1919 when he was invalided from service and died at the Home for the Blind, Brighton; sold together with Silver War Badge (B229505), with issuance slip and an OHMS named and addressed envelope to the recipient as well as copied research including census data, M.I.C. and pension documents.
