Frank Andrews was born at Monmouth in 1896, the son of John and Eliza Andrews of Monmouth. Joining the war in France on 22 April 1915 where the Regiment saw action as part of the 2nd Indian Cavalry Division. The unit was posted to Mesopotamia in July 1916 and took part in successful actions here under the command of General Maude. Here during the Battle of Tekrit Andrews was wounded in action on 5 November 1917, this date corresponds with an attack by the Cavalry Brigade on the flank of the Turkish positions in the support of the Infantry advancing to the front. Andrews survived his wound and was demobilised on 29 January 1919 with a Silver War Badge, no. B106949; sold together with copied research including medal rolls, M.I.C., census data and an extract from a history relating to the Battle of Tekrit as well as a roll of those wounded in the 13th Hussars.
