The War Medal awarded to Wren L. L. Lalage, Women's Royal Naval Service

War Medal 1939-45, sold together with a slip of issue for the corresponding riband, overall contact wear, very fine

Lorna Lalage Letham was born on 26 September 1924, the daughter of William Ashley Letham, 17 Tring Avenue, Ealing Common, London. Enlisting as a Trainee Wren on 24 November 1942 she served at H.M.S. Pembroke III until 16 December 1942 before transferring to H.M.S. Wildfire as a D. G. Recorder. Serving her until 8 March 1945 when she served at H.M.S. Spartiate, remaining here for the rest of the war. Letham was released from service on 28 December 1945; sold together with original W.R.N.S. record of service, employment certificate and a letter from the Director of Navy Accounts denying her application for a Defence medal but confirming her eligibility for the War Medal 1939-45 as well as copied research relating to the process of Defaussing and the wartime operations of H.M.S. Spartiate.
