Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque (David Rhys Davies), with envelope of issue and signed condolence slip, good very fine
David Rhys Davies was born at Llancarfan, Barry, Glamorgan in 1895, son of Rees and Margaret Davies of Llancarfan. Working as an Apprentice Fitter with the Barry Railway Company he attested on 4 September 1914 at Barry with the 11th (Service) Battalion, Rifle Brigade on 21 September 1914 with the Regimental Number S/1026. Entering the war in France on 22 July 1915 (Medals) he was killed in action only 74 days later on 3 October 1915, in the trenches east of Laventie. He is buried at the Royal Irish Rifles Graveyard, Laventie; sold together with copied research including service records, M.I.C. and Barry Railway Roll of Honour.
