(x) Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, The Nile 1884-85 (28. Pte J. Robertson. 1/R. W. Kent R.), pitting and edge wear, very fine
James Robertson was born at Plymouth, Devon in 1862. Attesting on 2 August 1881 with the Royal West Kent Regiment, Robertson was posted to the 1st Battalion. Arriving in Egypt on 3 August 1882 he served for a few months before being sent to Cyprus on 12 October 1882. Returning to Egypt on 4 September 1884 to participate in the Nile expedition under General Wolsey Robertston continued to serve in Egypt and the Sudan variously until 16 June 1886. His record notes that he was involved in operations at Ginnis in 1885 with the Sudan Field Force, he likely saw service in the Battle of Ginnis under Sir Francis Grenfell. After another two years service at Gibraltar from 17 June 1886-14 May 1889 before returning to Home Service, he was discharged on 1 August 1893.
