M.M. London Gazette 6 November 1936 (covering 15 April-14 September 1936). The original Commanding Officer's certificate, which accompanies the Lot states:

'...Gallant conduct at Jaffa when on Sentry Duty during the disturbances in Palestine 1936.'

Thomas Kelly was born on 9 March 1912 and was a labourer, living at 18 Lothian Street, Edinburgh, before joining the Royal Scots Fusliers on 1 October 1932. He served with the 1st Battalion in Palestine before joining the 2nd Battalion. Kelly was captured in Belgium on 27 May 1940 and was held at Stalag XXA (Thorn) from July-August 1940, before spending the rest of the Second World War 'behind the wire' at Stalag XXB (Marienburg), from August 1940-January 1945. In that time he was put to work on farms, labouring and building roads, suffering from Kidney problems due to 'long hours' from 3-27 November 1944, it being noted he was properly medically cared for.
