William Wadwell Nicholls was born at Stamford, Lincolnshire in October 1896, the son of William and Louisa Nicholls of 101 Middle Furlong Road, Nottingham. In the 1911 census records Nicholls' father is no longer with the family and Louisa is noted as the head of the household, although she is still noted as married. Nicholls himself is employed as a Page Boy at the time and living with the family at 155 Dame Agnes Street, Nottingham. He served with the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment during the Great War, at some stage transferring to 2nd/5th Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action while serving with that Regiment on 21 March 1918; sold together with Commonwealth War Graves details.
