Mortimer Henry Marion Durand was born on 12 November 1898, son of Colonel Sir Edward Law Durand, 1st Baronet. He was commissioned Midshipman on 2 August 1914, serving aboard Venerable until July 1916. In this period, she would see service off the Belgian coast in 1914, served with the East Coast Patrols during the Yarmouth Raid bombarded Turkish positions during the Gallipoli campaign. Advanced Sub-Lieutenant on 15 November 1917, he latterly served aboard Repulse and Attentive. Advanced Lieutenant in November 1919, he was made Lieutenant-Commander in 1927. Returned to the fold during the Second World War, he died on 18 February 1969, with his son becoming the 4th Baronet; sold together with copied research including a photograph of the recipient.
