Joseph Hopkins was born on 21 November 1886, the son of Mr George Hopkins of Hill Lodge, East Bridgeford, Nottingham. Married prior to enlistment he was living with his wife Mrs Rose Hopkins at 17 Maxwell Street, Long Eaton, Nottingham. Hopkins enlisted with the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 3 January 1917 and served with the Royal Marine Brigade. He was killed on 26 October 1917 in Flanders and is commemorated upon the Tyne Cot Memorial; sold together with copied research including service records and Commonwealth War Graves details.
