An unusual Silver War Badge awarded to a member of the Royal Defence Corps, representing the recipient's sole entitlement for service during the Great War
Silver War Badge (B 132695), good very fine
The number on this Badge relates to 14771 Pte. John Vance Wilson, of 49 Chevening Road, Greenwich, who enlisted in the Royal Defence Corps in June 1916 and was discharged in September 1918. It appears to represent his sole entitlement.
The R.D.C. was formed in March 1916 and disbanded in 1936, with its' members being comprised of those too old or medically unfit for active service; their role was to guard strategic installations and prisoner-of-war camps.
