The 1914-15 Star awarded to Trooper W. Smith, Lord Strathcona's Horse, late 17th Lancers, who died of wounds on 31 March 1918

1914-15 Star (2754 Tpr: W. Smith. Ld: S'Cona's H.), good very fine

William Smith was born at Clerkenwell, London on 1 May 1880 and saw some 12 years service with the 17th Lancers. He joined Lord Strathcona's Horse on 22 September 1914 and landed in France on 4 May 1915. Smith died of gunshot wounds to the abdomen at 61 Field Ambulance on 31 March 1918, being buried in Sains-en-Amienois Cemetery, France. His mother lived at 70 Lower Richmond Road, Putney, whilst his uncle lived at 105 Gowan Avenue, Munster Road, Fulham; sold together with copied 28-page Service Record.
