1914-15 Star (St. Paymr. R. R. Hamer, R.N.), good very fine
Richard Rodney Hamer was born on 3 October 1878, the son of The Rev. Richard Hamer, of Nottingham and entered the Royal Navy on 15 January 1896. He saw active service in China in 1900 and during the Great War. Risen to Fleet Paymaster, Hamer served aboard Persuivant, the Base Accounts and Accommodation Ship at Port Stanley, Falkland Islands as Accounting Officer for the Falkland Islands from 1 September 1940. Taken ill with lung cancer, he was evacuated to Simon's Town Naval Hospital, South Africa and died there, aged 63, on 14 January 1942. Hamer is buried in Simon's Town (Dido Valley) Cemetery.
