Abraham William Simpson was born at Otley, Suffolk in 1866 the son of Abraham and Sarah Simpson. He worked as a Harness Maker prior to enlistment with the Royal Artillery in 1890 after which he lived at the Royal Artillery Barracks at Woolwich. Serving with 61st Battery, Royal Field Artillery and is noted 'Discharged' on the medal roll. He appears on the 1911 census at 111 Kings Rd, Brentwood, Essex, working as a 'Collar And Harness Maker'. Further entitled to a King's South Africa Medal with two clasps.
