King George V Issues
1911-12 Watermark Imperial Crown
1d. Die A, an imperforate example in the issued colour, affixed to thick card (105 x 141m.) with manuscript "Confidential/Specimen for colour for George V/1d. Unified Stamp", signed Seymour Bennett and with blue "stamping/department/18 may. 1911" handstamp adjacent. It is believed that this is the actual colour standard used by Harrison & Sons, and that the rectangular portion of the card cut away at left was to allow it to be placed over a sheet of stamps to compare the colour. The card with light stain spotting though in no way detracting from this unique and most important item. Photo
