1850 (24 May) entire letter from London "p West Indies Mail Packet paid" to San Francisco, per Tay from Southampton to St. Thomas where held until 14 July, per Clyde to Jamaica and per Avon to Chagres, Panama, thence per Pacific Mail S.S. Co Oregon to destination, rated "1/-" prepaid to Panama and with boxed "30" cents due at foot, despatch datestamp at centre and on reverse. Extremely rare and early after the 1849 Gold Rush. Photo
