Europe: 1853 (25 Aug.) large, linen-backed envelope to Baden bearing 1/- green die 2 block of six and strip of three plus 1841 1d. red-brown, plate 170, ND-NG strip of four cancelled by Belfast "62" numerals; marked "Pre paid 9/4" and "via Ostend". The recipient had left the hotel and there are various manuscript return instructions including "is gone off", the reverse with an array of German datestamps of Cologne and Baden. Somewhat soiled and the adhesives, although cut square, are with faults, some fairly severe. A high value franking. Photo
