Plate 39, JG in a light, orange shade with fair margins (just cut into to very large) on 1844 (19 July) commercial entire to Germany tied by a superb strike of London Paid tombstone datestamp in red, with Glasgow Paid c.d.s. alongside the adhesive; manuscript rate mark "1/10" in red ink and manuscript "20", there is a faint transit c.d.s. on the reverse. A rare and appealing cover, free from the usual filing folds. R.P.S. Certificate (1987). Photo

This letter was payed in cash at the post office thus the 1d. stamp was not necessary, hence the Glasgow post office did not cancel the adhesive. The letter bears the delightful printed letterhead of Glenboig Fire Brick and Compound Brick Works, which is about ten miles from Glasgow
