1840 Mulready
Two Pence Envelope
a196, 1886 (11 Mar.) from Charing Cross to Strand, considered underpaid and charged with handstruck "2d.", subsequently deleted by inspector's serpentine handstamp and endorsed "Charged in error. The stamp envelope being genuine/ F.H./ Postmaster/ W.C. District" in manuscript, backstamped London. A fine and interesting cover, the very late use confused the postal clerk who did not realise the Mulready was still valid for two pence. B.P.A. Certificate (2010). Photo
