1d. envelope printed in black on greyish wove paper without watermark, setting 4B, cancelled by crowned 1840 (7 Apr.) c.d.s, addressed to Edinburgh than redirected to Stow and bearing "paid at edinb. apr 9 1840" c.d.s.; The reverse with arrival c.d.s. for the same day. The envelope was folded by the sender to show the inscriptions on the reverse, now refolded in the original shape for display. Minor overall toning and edge tear at right.
