The Postal Anomalies
Specimens of Postal Charges in 1859: the two letter sheets produced to illustrate the nonsense of the postal tariffs with the large sheet measuring 35 inches by 23 inches marked "Single Letter" plus the small "Double Letter" with the printed message, "This paper, 4 inches by 2½ inches, and its Cover of similar size, weighing 7 grains, or under one 60th part of an ounce weight. and is charged DOUBLE Postage, whilst the accompanying Sheet, 35 inches by 23 inches, weighing just under One Ounce, is charged as a SINGLE Letter". The large letter with central vertical fold and some ageing at edges, the small sheets are fine.
