Note: The lot is accompanied by a 1991 letter from Marcus Faux to Richard Lockyer explaining his theory regarding these interesting and unusual stamps and making the suggestion that they were sample stamps made at a time that the three main UK printers were looking at experiments to make their stamps more attractive
