Act of Grace and Free Pardon, AR Medal, 1717, by J. Croker, GEORGIVS • D • G • MAG • BR • FR • ET • HIB • REX • F • D •, draped and armoured bust right, rev. CLEMENTIA • AVGVSTI •, winged figure of Clemency standing left, leaning against a column, touches a serpent's head with a caduceus, MDCCXVII in exergue, plain edge, 45mm, 36.30g (Eimer 478; MI ii 437/37; Woolf 34; Harding 54 this medal), some hairlines to otherwise proof-like surfaces, with bold blue toning in parts, pleasingly struck-up in high relief, extremely fine, rare and scarcely offered

Harsh retributions on captured Jacobite rebels exacerbated the unpopularity of King George I during his reign. In an attempt to improve the situation an Act was passed giving free pardon to all rebels with a few specific exceptions. This medal therefore appears to operate as a straightforward act of political propaganda.
