Act of Union of England and Scotland, AR Medal, 1707, by J. Croker, ANNA • DEI • GRATIA • MAG : BRITAN : FRA : ET • HIB: REGINA •, draped, armoured and crowned bust left, rev. NOVAE • PALLADIVM • TROIAE •, statue of Anne as Pallas, plain edge, 70mm, 103.74g (Eimer 423; MI ii 298/115; van Loon IV, 349; Harding 38 this medal), some faint finger and contact marks, including to the arm of Anne as Pallas, otherwise richly cabinet toned and with proof-like surfaces, extremely fine

In 1705 the English Parliament passed the Alien Act which had shut down most trade between England and Scotland. The English, fearful of the return of the Stuart family to Scotland on the death of Anne, offered financial inducements and access to their trading network. The Scots accepted the Hanoverian succession. Both sides made the judgement that the Union would strengthen the enlarged country. This was recorded by a number of medals, including this example, stylistically associated to John Croker.
